The International Day of Forests 2020 is here!

Today, Saturday the 21st of March we are celebrating all forests from tropical to boreal.

But why are trees cut down at that rate?

Deforestation occurs because of timber extraction, mining and infrastructure development. Another major reason is land clearing for farming and plantations such as palm oil plantations.

By planting trees we are able to rehabilitate land, provide habitat for animals, sustainable jobs for local communities and reduce CO2 levels in the atmosphere. Here are some simple ways you can plant trees without even getting your hands dirty.

Use Ecosia as your search engine

Ecosia is a search engine similar to Firefox, Safari and Google Chrome in its quality. However, "each search with Ecosia actually removes 1 kg of CO2 from the air, which makes Ecosia a carbon-negative search engine", says Trudie Carter, Ecosia's Social Media Manager. Ecosia gives all its profits to tree planting organisations such as the Eden Projects. In July 2019 alone the search engine gave 815'378 euros to tree planting companies. It has already removed more than 1.5 million tonnes of CO2 from the atmosphere by planting nearly 50 million trees. Use Ecosia instead the next time you want to "google" something.

Plant A Tree For Me! plants native Australian trees and $30 will buy you three eucalyptus trees. Especially after the Australian bushfires, this is a great way to help the land rehabilitate.

The Orangutan Project will plant 1 tree for just $10 or 20 for $100. They are planted in Sumatra and will provide new habitats for Orang-utans and hundreds of other species. It's the perfect and thoughtful gift for any nature lover!
